Mason Jar Soap Dispenser

I'm in LLLLUURRRRRVVVVEEEE with the Ball blue mason jars. They are TOO cute.

I bought a box several weeks ago from Target, and they sat on my kitchen counter that whole time just waiting for me to come up with some fabulousness for them.

So I turned to the mecca of all good ideas, and found this cute thing.

Totally adorable, right?!

I began the search for a cheap but nice looking soap pump to go with my sweet blue jars.

This was not as easy as I had hoped.

Everything I found that looked good was in the $10+ range. And considering I was only going to use the pump part and most likely toss the container, I was NOT paying that amount.

In desperation On a whim, I strolled into the local dollar store. And lo and behold! I found what I was looking for!

And only for $1! (Love the dollar store!)

So, one night after the boys were in bed (and I was still in my work clothes), I gathered up the necessities and got to work.

Not pictured: hammer, screwdriver, needle nose pliers, glue gun, scissors, camera
First, I punched a hole in the top of the jar lid using a hammer and screwdriver:
Teeny tiny screwdriver
I made the hole big enough for the pump to fit through.

Like this:

To make sure there were no sharp ends, I used the pliers to bend back the metal:

And then used the hammer to flatten the ends.

Not too beautiful, but very functional

Then I hot glued the pump to the top and bottom of the lid:

I really coated the underside of the lid with glue to make it as leakproof as possible.

Then I tied a bit of raffia to the jar, screwed on the lid and PRESTO! Instant country-cute functionality!

Simple, cheap and quick ... just the way I like my crafts! This one took me about 10 minutes to make at a whopping cost of $3 (the case of six jars was $12, and the soap dispenser was $1)!

It turned out so cute, I gave it to my bestie for her birthday present. (And she called the next day asking if I'd make her another one!)

I see another trip to the dollar store in my future...

  1. Love it! Another idea I may just copy!

    1. Thanks, Fran! It came out so cute that I just went Target and bought 12 more jars! :)
